Nano-sized MBBT considered Safe for use in Cosmetic Products by EU Scientific Committee

The European Commission’s Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety (SCCS) met for a plenary meeting on 25 March 2015, when the Committee finalised an opinion on MBBT [2,2’-methylene-bis-(6(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4(1,1,3,3 tetramethylbutyl)phenol)] used in cosmetic products. It concluded that this substance is safe for use in cosmetic products under certain conditions.
EFSA Publishes Scientific Opinon on Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles for Food Contact Materials

The European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) conducted a safety assessment study on the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (coated and uncoated) in food contact materials, proposed by the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

In the framework of the Regulation on Cosmetic Products 1223/2009, the European Commission Directorate General for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROWTH) has published calls for information on the following nanomaterials used as ingredients in cosmetics: Colloidal silver (nano), Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer (Nano),Sodium Styrene/Acrylates Copolymer (Nano).
